Gold Arm Ring
Vikings carried their wealth with them until times of trouble and then they buried it.
This wealth often took the form of jewellery, especially arm bands and rings. More often jewellery was made of silver. It was common for jewellery to be cut into pieces to be used as currency.
So this is a very rare find from York in that it is large, complete and made of gold.
During 2010 the Arm Ring was on display at the British Museum for several months, it returned to York for the reopening of the Yorkshire Museum on 1 August 2010.
