Silver Strap Ends
Anglian strap ends
These beautifully crafted objects were found in Nether Poppleton, near York.
They're a great example of just how skilled the Anglo Saxons were at working metal.
Although they had a function - to prevent the ends of a belt from fraying and make it easier to thread - they would have been expensive and must have been viewed as a form of jewellery.
The intricate design is very Anglo-Saxon, involving intertwined lines and animal shapes.
